Current Users of LAMENESS LOCATOR™
find that it is most helpful for:
Evaluating horses with mild lameness
Evaluating horses with apparent multiple limb lameness
Evaluating horses with apparent compensatory lameness
Quantifying the effectiveness of peripheral nerve and joint
blocks
Confirming the incidental nature of equivocal imaging
abnormalities
Developing a further diagnostic approach based on
type of lameness ( impact, push off) exhibited
Documenting soundness in Pre-Purchase evaluations
Documenting musculoskeletal soundness in cases of
poor performance
Monitoring convalescence or improvement after
treatment
As with any other diagnostic test or piece of medical
equipment, there is a slight learning curve for most effectively using the
Lameness Locator; the system will not suddenly turn a novice into an expert
lameness evaluator. There is no substitute for dedicated experience and for
performing a through physical and limb examination.
The “Lameness Locator” objectively detects and quantifies
body movement asymmetry in a horse using small, body-mounted inertial sensors
and a hand-held tablet PC. Instrumentation of the horse is quick, easy, and
completely non-invasive. Data collection is in real time and veterinarians are
free to perform their usual lameness evaluation routine without distraction.
Our new Lameness Locator diagnostic equipment assists us in detecting and
quantifying body movement asymmetry in the subject horse by using small, body
mounted sensors and our tablet PC. The procedure is completely painless,
non-invasive and is fast and simple, using this new instrumentation. Our data is
collected immediately and we can perform our usual lameness evaluation routine
with no distraction and have additional data.
